Mid-Century Condo $169,900

Posted by: Teri

Don’t overlook this Concordia nugget just a stone’s throw from all that is good about Portland.  Located at 3911 NE Killingsworth #7, in a 10-unit condo, this mid-century unit is on the top floor, away from the street, and includes a deeded parking space.  Check it out – 14’ x 20’ living room with hardwoods and a fireplace, 11’ x 13’ sunny kitchen with eating area and marmoleum floors, 12’ x 14’ master suite with hardwoods and tile floored bathroom, 10’ x 12’  bedroom #2, and a 2nd full bathroom.  This 2 bedroom/2 bath 1047 square foot unit + parking is JUST $169,900.  This home is on a busline, near New Seasons, McMenamin’s Kennedy School and Fernhill Park.  Fernhill is one of Portland’s best neighborhood parks, offering a trifecta of perfection: 1. Hilly dog park with beautiful evergreen and deciduous trees, 2. Flat & grassy picnic, barbecue and playground area, and 3. State of the art red rubber walking/running track and playing fields.  So get cracking and take advantage of the $8,000 first time buyers tax credit (or the repeat buyer $6500 tax credit) before April 30th.  Call today for more details and to schedule a private showing.

A Day at Pietro Belluschi’s

Posted by: Daria

BELLUSCHI2A few weeks ago my husband and I, along with several other historians, architects, and designers, had a rare opportunity for a private viewing and tour through one of Pietro Belluschi’s Mid-Centurty residential projects in Portland. Pietro Belluschi, a native of Ancona, Italy, designed over 1000 buildings-in a broad range from residences, commercial buildings and chapels with the greatest concentration being on the West Coast and New England. In his 50 years of practice he was a leader in the Modernist Movement and, although his work reflects this International Design period, it also illustrates his preference for regional traditions and native materials. The Burkes-Belluschi House is a superb example of the Pacific Northwest style of Mid-Century Modern residential design. It was designed in 1947 and built in 1948 for the Burkes family. In 1973 it was purchased by Pietro Belluschi when he returned to Portland from 14 years as the Dean of Architecture and Planning at MIT. He lived in the home with his wife, Marjorie, who continued living there after his passing in 1994 until recently. The new owners of the house, Marti and Tony Belluschi, the architect son of Pietro, are planning necessary, respectful and useful, renovations and additions during the next year. The tour was an exciting opportunity to view this unique dwelling with its authentic, simple, elegant and livable modernist design style. We look forward to seeing this fine example of NW Regionalism after the current works!

GreenPDX Tours the Ash Creek House

Posted by: Amber

Ashcreekhouse

GreenPDX toured the Ash Creek House on Sunday and had private tours by the architect, Paolo Scardinia, and the owner.  There were over 30 people in attendance and so we split off into groups to explore the upstairs and lower level with the experts.  The house is “LEED for Homes Plantinum Rehab Certified”, which means that besides being BEAUTIFULLY redesigned, it has so many sustainable, high efficiency features it’s impossible to list them all here.  Geothermal ground source heating and cooling, heat recovery ventilator, all Energy Star appliances, 100-year cellulose insulation, naturescaping, bioswales, and a creek out back that is home to salmon and trout!   All of this in the city, in a house where 99% of the remodel construction waste was either reused or recycled.  Listed by Hilary Bourassa and Darcie Pelsor of Oregon First, this house is a green homeowners dream at $595,000.  To see this bright beauty, give me a call for a special showing!
