Concordia Cutie!

Posted by: Jaime

3225 NE Holman front

This updated Concordia home has found it’s new buyer and she couldn’t be happier!   After living in New York City and truly understanding how much space she NEEDS, this charming one bedroom was just right.   With a basement, generous closet and pantry space throughout it’s more than enough to fit her and her sewing hobby.   I took my buyer to see this house the first day it hit the market and we wrote up the offer the next morning competing with two other offers before securing the deal!   A new furnace, roof, sewer line, rebuilt chimney, and gas stove make this home ready to go with little to do other than move in and arrange the furniture.  Just blocks to Fernhill Park, Concordia University, and all the tasty restaurants and coffee shops Killingsworth and Alberta have to offer, it was a pleasure to help this eager first time buyer find her home in a neighborhood that boasts all she wanted and more!

Classic Bungalow w/ an Eco-Conscience

Posted by: Amber

rosa-parks-i.jpg The bungalow is a classic style we all love, and this one is no exception.  Look closer, however, and you’ll discover more than just the built-ins and sprawling front porch.  This 4 bed/2.5 bath home has reclaimed wood floors, recycled concrete roofing with a 50 year warranty, a tankless hot water heater, dual-flush toilets, low VOC paint, a 95% Eff. gas furnace…and numerous other green aspects.  Simply put, you won’t find these features on those older bungalows that look good from the curb.   You’ll fall in love with the amount of light and livable space, not to mention the 2nd story balcony with views.   Listed at $389,900 with Adam Rust at Destination Realty.  Earning both Earth Advantage and Energy Star certification, this home would be a joy to show you.  Call me today for a private tour.

Robert Rummer at Rejuvenation

Posted by: Daria

Robert Rummer spoke with moderator Becca Cavell Wednesday night at Rejuvenation in SE Portland at a benefit for the Street of Eames, a non-profit which raises money for after school programs for homeless children.  Rummer, 82, fielded questions from a charming Cavell and the attendees about the 1950s to 1970s period of his building career, a period that produced ‘Rummer Homes’. After returning from WWII, graduating from college with a degree in Art, selling insurance, and his wife, Phyllis’, fateful & inspiring trip to Walnut Creek, California (home of houses by famed Joseph Eichler)  Rummer began to build houses. At the time that Rummer was building interest rates were at 18%, lenders were averse to lending for a modern style house- especially with a flat roof, and one could get a building permit in a day!  His homes are ranches, a style which grew from the hacienda ranch period of Southern California coupled with the modernist aesthetic of the Post War. They have a light-filled, open floor plan with abundant  floor to ceiling windows centered about an atrium that can be opened to the pleasant elements of summer, or closed providing an outdoor-like indoor space protected from the NW rain and cold. Radiant floor heat and a strong relationship to the outside provide comfortable respite ‘in nature’ during the winter months. Rummer homes are sought after collector’s items primarily clustered on the west side of town, and those that are lucky enough to own them are, without a doubt, enthusiasts of what Robert Rummer gave to Portland in the mid-century modern period. If you would like to see a Rummer Built home that we have just sold check out Rummer Lovin’ in Oak Hills.
